Membership

The Ones is 831’s membership program, offering early delivery of every new monthly 831 title, sitewide discounts, early and exclusive access to events, members-only perks and products, and more.

Members can choose to receive books as paperbacks, e-books (formatted for Kindle devices or apps only), audiobooks, or any combination of the three. Members who sign up for more than one format receive a 25% discount on the add-on digital product; members who sign up on an annual basis (for any format) receive a discount off of the monthly price.

Gift memberships can be purchased in 5-book and 12-book subscriptions, in all formats and combinations. The recipient will be notified by email on a date chosen at the time of purchase and must redeem the membership in order to begin receiving deliveries. The recipient must reside in the U.S. to redeem a paperback gift subscription. Gift memberships do not renew automatically.

Currently, international customers can sign up for e-book and audiobook memberships only. We do not ship any of our physical products to customers outside of the U.S., but we hope to be able to in the future. (And our books are available at booksellers and via Amazon in many English-speaking countries.) Members with e-book subscriptions must access their titles via Kindle devices and/or Kindle apps. Instructions to set up a Kindle account for e-book delivery can be found here. New titles will be automatically delivered to Kindle accounts monthly, along with an email notification confirming their delivery.

Members with audiobook subscriptions can access their titles via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube Music, Overcast, Pocket Casts, and Downcast. Members will receive an email notifying them of each new title delivery, with a link to a page where they can send it to the audio player of their choice.

Our books do not release on the same day every month, and shipping windows will vary from title to title. Log into your account page to view estimated delivery timing for upcoming titles. We cannot adjust, pause, or hold shipments due to travel.

Refer to the cutoff date listed in the Next Shipment section above to determine the first title new members will receive.

• For paperbacks: Members will receive an email with an order confirmation and tracking information for each shipment. 
• For audiobooks: Members will receive an email notification that their audiobook is ready for download, with a link to a page with instructions for sending it to a preferred audio player. 
• For e-books: Members will receive an email that their e-book has been delivered directly to their Kindle device or app. The new book will automatically appear in the Kindle library ready for download when connected to the internet. Note that in order for this to work, members must first follow the instructions for setup found here. 

• Monthly memberships are charged for the first month at the time of purchase. Following the month of their initial shipment, charges occur on the 1st of each month. Monthly members may cancel before the 1st of the month to avoid being charged for that month.
• Annual memberships are charged for the full year at the time of purchase, and members will receive the Next Shipment title listed above at the time of purchase, with the subsequent 11 shipments following after that on a monthly cadence. Annual memberships will renew 7 days after the twelfth title’s order confirmation is sent. Annual members may cancel at any time but will continue to receive the remainder of their shipments.
• Gift memberships are charged for the full subscription amount at the time of purchase, and members will receive the Next Shipment title listed above as soon as they redeem their membership, with the subsequent shipments following after that on a monthly cadence. Gift memberships do not auto-renew. If you received a gift membership and would like to renew it, contact theones@831stories.com.
• Legacy 5-book memberships will renew 7 days after the fifth title’s order confirmation is sent. Legacy members may cancel at any time but will continue to receive the remainder of their shipments. Please contact theones@831stories.com to convert your existing paperback membership to a new format or billing cadence via site credit.

Memberships can be cancelled by logging into your customer account and navigating to the Subscriptions tab. Members must cancel their subscription prior to the renewal date to avoid being charged. Partial refunds will not be issued. For monthly members, the renewal date is the first of each month; for annual members, the renewal date is seven days after your twelfth order is created. 

Monthly members may cancel at any time. Annual and legacy 5-book members may cancel at any time but will continue to receive the remainder of their shipments.

Memberships cannot be paused.
