Social & Content Manager
831 Stories is a romantic fiction publisher and entertainment company. We publish joyful, sexy, immersive romance novellas and build worlds around them—from events and fan fiction to merch, membership, and everything else that makes being a fan more fun.
We’re looking for a Social & Content Manager to help bring these stories to life across web, email, and social.
This is a hands-on production-oriented role for someone who is extremely online, detail-oriented, highly organized, creatively sharp, and very good at making things happen. You’ll own the day-to-day execution of 831 Stories’s social channels and be responsible for building website content, marketing emails, and other marketing materials. You’ll bring our content calendar to life by coordinating assets and approvals, producing and publishing content, capturing moments in real time, and making sure good ideas actually make it out into the world.
You won’t be starting from a blank page. You’ll work closely with the rest of the small 831 team, including a social strategist, who will set the overarching strategy, creative direction, and priorities. Your job is to become an expert in the strategy, approach, and style set by 831 and to turn it into consistently great execution—while bringing your own ideas, instincts, and point of view to the work.
We’re looking for someone who has taste but is not precious about their ideas or getting their hands dirty. Someone who notices when the crop is wrong, the caption isn't quite there, or there's an opportunity to make something better—and fixes it. Someone who can be handed a calendar, a launch, a set of copy and creative, or an abstract prompt and be trusted to run with it.
What you'll do
-
Own the day-to-day management and execution of 831 Stories' content across Instagram, Klaviyo, Substack, TikTok, and Pinterest
-
Manage and maintain the social content calendar, keeping posts, launches, events, announcements, and recurring content organized and on track
-
Produce social content from concept through posting—including shooting and editing short-form video, creating simple graphics, sourcing assets from internal team members and external creative partners, writing and adapting copy, and packaging existing material for social
-
Schedule and publish posts across platforms
-
Work closely with the team to translate broader strategy and creative direction into a steady stream of excellent content
-
Cover 831 Stories events, author appearances, launches, and other moments in real time, including occasional evenings and weekends
-
Maintain an organized library of social assets and make sure great photos, video, quotes, press, and community content don't get lost
-
Keep a close eye on what's happening across social—formats, conversations, memes, creators, books, culture—and identify opportunities that actually make sense for 831
-
Track basic channel and content performance, identify what's resonating, and use those learnings to improve future execution
-
Help build systems and processes that make our social operation faster, smarter, and more consistent as 831 grows
Who you are
-
You have roughly 2–4 years of experience working in social media, content, brand, editorial, creative ops, or a related field
-
You're a strong executor. You like making things, finishing things, and getting things out the door—not just talking about what a brand could do
-
You're fast, detail-oriented, resourceful, and unusually reliable. You’re comfortable managing lots of moving pieces, deadlines, assets, and stakeholders at once
-
You have excellent taste and strong instincts about what feels good, current, funny, interesting, or off-brand. You’re extremely online and understand the cultural nuances of the internet and the specificities of micro-communities
-
You're comfortable creating content yourself. You can shoot a good iPhone video, make a clean edit, write a strong caption, and turn raw material into something worth posting
-
You're a strong writer and editor who can learn an established voice and work within it
-
You're excited to work at a small, growing company!
-
You're based in New York City and able to attend and cover in-person events as needed
We'd be especially excited if
-
You genuinely love books, romance, pop culture, and internet culture
-
You've worked for a media, publishing, entertainment, fashion, food, consumer, or other culturally driven brand
The person we're looking for
This role has a lot of room to grow, but it isn't a senior social strategy position on day one. We're looking for someone excited by the craft and operations of content and social: constructing the post, getting it up, covering the event, keeping the calendar moving, and making every piece a little better.
The right person will be ambitious enough to want more ownership over time—and good enough that we'll want to give it to them.
You don't need to have done every part of this job before. We're much more interested in someone smart, hungry, resourceful, and creatively tuned-in who has a track record of punching above their weight.
Send your CV, a note about yourself, and three dream 831 Stories authors to roles@831stories.com with the subject line "Social & Content Manager." Salary: $70,000 to $80,000 with benefits.
